Former Boston Sportscaster Charged with Sending Child Pornography

Posted by: Frederick Lane

Last week, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts announced the indictment and arrest of Bob Gamere, 69,  on three counts of transporting and possessing child pornography. Gamere is best-known as the former host of the popular daytime show "Candlepins for Cash," which ran from 1973-1980.

Gamere was identified as a potential subject when he began a conversation with an undercover agent in a chat room and subsequently sent an e-mail with a child pornography video attached.

Investigators later determined that Gamere, using the screen name "GreatGamere," had e-mailed the video to himself every month or so to prevent America Online from deleting the video from his e-mail account. Investigators said that Gamere had also been sending child pornography videos to multiple people

The screen name "GreatGamere" has also turned up in other investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, according to an affidavit filed by the Bureau.

In 2007, a search warrant was obtained for Gamere's house. Print-outs of child pornography were found, and an examination of his computer hard drive revealed images and videos containing child pornography.

If convicted, Gamere faces 5-20 years for transportation, and a maximum of 10 years for possession. He plead not guilty at his arraignment and was released on bail. He is being electronically monitored, and is forbidden any contact with minors or use of the Internet. He was also instructed not to answer the door on Halloween.
