Guilty Plea Likely in Gamere Child Pornography Case
Posted by: Frederick Lane on 05 September 2009
According to wire reports earlier today, Bob Gamere, the well-known Boston sportscaster and longtime host of "Candlepins for Cash," is planning to plead guilty to charges of child pornography in U.S. District Court in Boston on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Gamere was charged with two counts of transporting child pornography videos and one count of possessing child pornography following a search of his home and computers by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2007. He plead not guilty to the charges, but late last week, the Court agreed to schedule a change-of-plea hearing.
Investigators alleged that Gamere (who used his on-camera nickname, "Great Gamere," as his AOL screen name) collected and traded videos and still images of child pornography. Agents also seized physical copies of contraband material in a locked cabinet in Gamere's home.
If convicted on the original charges, the 70-year-old Gamere faced a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison. There is no indication what the terms of the plea agreement, if any, might be.
